There are some tricks in VB you can use to directly map a graphics card to the VM instead of the host. But it’s extremely techy and needs CLI (it’s not something in the pointy-clicky GUI of VBox). Ryan Gordon, Epic's Linux/Mac guru revealed in a post to the Linux UT2004 mailing list that the Unreal Editor will be coming to Linux and Mac in Unreal Engine 3. We've already rewritten UnrealEd to use the wxWindows toolkit on Windows. The intention is to have it run on Mac, Linux, and Windows. That's for UnrealEngine3, though, not UT2004. Somewhere on the Unreal Editor window the project's name is shown in big letters. Search the Mac's hard drive for that name. You'll probably find a folder named like that, which contains a file with the same name and a.uproject extension, among other files and subfolders. Copy that whole folder to the Windows computer.
When it comes to computer games, those on the Windows platform benefit far more than folks using Mac OS X – there is just no comparison, although some basic staples such as Diablo, Starcraft and of course, Warcraft (hey, all of those are Blizzard titles!) do rear their heads on both platforms. Well, it seems that native Unreal Engine 3 support has just been announced for the Mac, thanks to the free-to-use Unreal Development Kit.
This does not come as a surprise since Epic has been a long time supporter of Apple’s Mac OS X-derived mobile operating system known as iOS. In addition to that, consistent Mac support from developers like Valve and Blizzard have also increased Mac OS X’s case for a viable gaming platform – and Mac support from Unreal Engine 3 will definitely be able to push the case for more games on Mac OS X – and not just from Epic themselves.

Hi Maurice, Thanks for responding with the requested information. I'm afraid I was mistaken about Packaging for Mac without having to pay to join the Apple iOS Developer Program. To provide a separate executable that will launch on a Mac you would need to pay to join the Apple iOS Developer Program whether you are developing on a PC or Mac. It is possible to Launch directly to an iOS device for testing from a Mac without joining the Apple iOS Developer Program if you configure Identity and Team settings via XCode. However, because it requires XCode, this is currently not possible from a PC without the proper provisions and certifications. -Steve H. |
